WHO WAS UNCLE SAM?

The term “Uncle Sam is used as a nickname for the United States of America. It is believed that the name came about from a businessman from Troy, New York, Samuel Wilson, known affectionately as “Uncle Sam” Wilson. His company supplied barrels of beef to the army during the War of 1812. The barrels were stamped “U.S.” to indicate government property.
