Millions of Christians make a journey to holy places each year. Most of the holy places in Christianity are found in Europe but the most important ones are found in Israel (the holy land).

HOLY PLACES IN CHRISTIANITY
ROME
Rome is a significant holy place for Christians especially Roman Catholics. This is because it is the location of Vatican City, home of the Pope. The Pope is the head of the Catholic Church worldwide. Many Christian pilgrims come to Rome during Easter. They gather at St. Peter’s square to receive the blessing of the Pope.
LOURDES IN FRANCE
In Lourdes, there is a shrine that many Christians go to. It is believed that one can receive healing by washing in a spring located at the shrine. It is said that in 1850 a young girl named Bernadette Soubrier had visions of the Virgin Mary. The spring of water appeared and miraculous healing took place thereafter.
HOLY PLACES IN ISRAEL
The holy places in Israel are important to Christians because they are associated with Jesus. Bethlehem is a holy place because it is where Jesus was born. Nazareth is where Jesus grew up. Jerusalem is very important because it is where Jesus spent the last week before he was crucified.
